Where do I indicate the interest on the mortgage for my main residence?

Enter the interest on the mortgage for your main residence in the “Main residence” form.

  1. First, go to the “Tax situation” form and tick the first box in the “Real estate” category.
  2. Then go to the “Main residence” form and fill in the relevant fields.

Important points:

  • This section only applies to the home you actually live in as your main residence. If you do not yet live in your own home (for example, because you live with your parents or your home is still being built), do not tick the box “Our household has lived in its main residence and has an ongoing mortgage”. Simply enter the address where you currently live.
  • If your home is still being built, is not yet occupied, or will only be occupied in a later year, enter the interest paid in the “Future residence” section by ticking the box “I  have a property under construction or not yet occupied with an ongoing mortgage”.
  • Only declare interest actually paid during the year. If no interest was paid, there is nothing to enter. The date the notarial deed was signed makes no difference: as long as interest was paid during the year, it can be declared.
  • Deductible interest is subject to a cap, set out in the table at the bottom of page 10 of the tax return.
