Why is the Luxembourg Tax Authority (ACD) now asking for my bank details?

The ACD has tightened its verification procedures for tax refunds. From now on, taxpayers must provide official proof of their bank details.

This measure is designed to secure transfers and prevent errors or fraud during refunds.

What documents does the ACD accept?

The ACD only accepts two types of documents:

  • A Bank Account Statement (RIB): an official document issued by your bank (Luxembourg or foreign) showing your name, IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code. You can usually download it easily from your bank's online portal.
  • A Bank Confirmation Letter (BCL): a document issued by your bank confirming you're the account holder.

What documents are rejected?

The ACD tax offices do not accept:

  • Screenshots
  • Copies of credit or debit cards
  • Simple bank statements

Only an official RIB or BCL counts as valid proof of your bank identity.

How do I send my bank details to the ACD?

You have several options:

  1. By email or post: Send your RIB/BCL directly to the relevant tax office.
  2. Via the contact form on the ACD website.
  3. Online via MyGuichet.lu: Use the "IBAN declaration or change" service in your secure space. You'll need a LuxTrust product or a Luxembourg electronic ID card (eID) to sign electronically.

I'm a cross-border worker, does this apply to me?

Yes! Whether you're a Luxembourg resident or a cross-border worker from France, Belgium or Germany, the ACD now requires bank proof for all refunds. Your IBAN can be from a Luxembourg or foreign bank.

What if I'm married or in a civil partnership?

  • Joint account: Provide an RIB or BCL for the couple's joint account.
  • Individual account: If the refund should go to one partner's personal account, you'll need to provide that account's RIB plus written authorisation from the other partner.
  • Separation or divorce: The ACD will calculate each person's share and make separate refunds to each account.

What happens if I don't provide bank details?

Without valid bank details, the ACD cannot process your tax refund. Your refund will stay on hold until they receive a valid RIB or BCL.
